Individual Race

The Start line Peloton w/ Reiner and Alex on the right

Today the ski resort of Grau Roig played host as over 11o racers lined up again to battle it out on a long course.  The organisers really showed their stuff today after a stormy night and pulled together a course that was challenging, well marked and entertaining for spectators.

Racing for Canada today was Reiner Thoni, James Minifie, Stano Faban, Alex Wigley, Melenaie Bernier, Billies Velisek and Julie Matteu.  I was really proud to see everyone gunning on the course today and all racers looked strong and represented Canada well.

The conditions on course were difficult with 5-10 cm’s of heavy new snow on top of last week’s rain crust and in and out visibility for most of the morning. Conditions were so firm that the officials made crampons mandatory for the last climb.   Star of the team today was definatly Mel with her top 20 finish(again) and Reiner in 48th.  Placing for the rest of the team was exciting to watch and really close down to the end with James- 68th, Stano 69th and Alex 71st and the womens side with Julie in 28th and Billie in 30th.

All racers are looking forward to another rest day to recharge for the Teams race on Friday.
