2011 Tiki Torch Dash


The Golden Skimountaineering Team partnered with Kicking Horse Mtn Resort are thrilled to introduce the evolution of the Tiki Torch Dash January 15th as part of the Avalanche Awareness Days at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort.

The Tiki Torch Dash is a night race with two separate heats:

  • Heat 1 -A short track  teams or solo relay race
  • Heat 2 -A King of the Hill vertical race where each racer goes head to head for SMCC points

The Relay is the first race of the evening kicks off at 5:30 pm at the Gondola base, where teams of 2 or solo competitors will line up to do battle for 6 laps (4 for the solo) on a 400 ft short track relay course.  New this year is more laps on tighter looped course with mandatory bootpack transition. 

The Vertical “King of the Hill” starts approximately 30 minutes after the last racer finishes the relay and will be a hair straight back, all out uphill blast of approximately 1500 ft of vertical gain.

Entry in the relay is mandatory to gain entry in the “King of the Hill” Vertical Race that is for SMCC points.  The racers with the 3 top lap times in the relay will get preferred start line positions slightly staggered ahead of the pack.

When:  5:30 PM, January 15th

Price:  $30 online before Jan 15 or $40 the night of


Complimentary dinner, awards and DJ will all be going on at the Gondola base plaza and racers are encouraged to stay and enjoy the nightlife and celebrate the beginning of a new season.

Both races will be held after dark, so headlamps and helmets are mandatory equiptment to enter as well as gloves and a backpack to secure your sliding weapon whilst bootpacking.  Alpine tourers, telemarkers, splitboarders and snowshoers are all welcome.  There will be awards for best costumes as well as best times.

Come on out, dress up and feel the burn!
